What if I can't access an article?
Don't pay for articles. The library offers services that can help you access the article at no cost.
Answer
An article that is available through the library will be accessible by clicking the article title, PDF or "Full text" linked buttons in the item description. Here is an example of an article available through the library:
If you are unable to access the full text, you may need to follow these troubleshooting options:
1. Interlibrary loan: If the article you need isn't available through the library, you can request it via interlibrary loan. This service allows you to borrow articles from other libraries at no cost.
2. Redirected to journal page: If you're redirected to a journal's main page or an issue list but not the specific article, you'll need to manually locate it using the bibliographic information (volume, issue, and page number). Here is an example.
Here's how:
Step 1: identify the volume and issue number from your citation. In the example above, the volume number is 38 and issue number is 76.
Step 2: Navigate to the correct volume and issue on the journal's website. In the example above, clicking on "Archives" link at the top of the page will show all volume and issue numbers of this journal.
Step 3: Once you've tracked down the right issue, look for the article by title or page number.
3. Browser cache and cookies: Occasionally, access issues can be caused by your browser's cache or cookies. Clearing them or using a different browser can sometimes resolve the problem.
4. Clicking 'PDF' but seeing only table of contents or abstract: If clicking the 'PDF' button takes you to a table of contents or just the article abstract, this may be a glitch or indicate restricted access. In this case, double check if full access if available via the article title link or 'Full text' button. If not, you may need to request the item through interlibrary loan.
