What do the License or Terms of Use definitions mean?

The majority of VIU Library's online content comes from different vendors, and the licenses terms for these resources vary. In an effort to communicate what is allowed for each resource, we have added public-facing License or Terms of Use information. The definitions below may help you understand how you can use the resource. If you have any questions, please contact library@viu.ca.

 

Definitions

Course Packs (Print)

Refers to bound print copies of materials curated by instructors for student use

Interlibrary Loan

The permission to loan materials owned or licensed by one library to another library or its users via approved methods, such as secured electronic transmission.

Learning Management System:

The permission to upload electronic copies of resources to a secure learning management system (such as VIULearn).

Stable Linking

The permission to post a secure, persistent URL to the materials, including on VIULearn.

Walk-in Use

The permission for anyone on VIU premises to use licensed resources for non-commercial purposes.

Perpetual Access

"Yes" or "No" indicates whether or not VIU Library has the right to retains access to content published up until cancellation.
